I’ve been wanting to design a hooded cowl crochet pattern for quite some time and I finally took the leap when I was trying to think of the perfect gift for my mom this past Christmas. Full of interest with texture, color, and softness, this wide cowl can be worn as an infinity scarf or as a head wrap.
Elegant enough for evening, but comfy and warm enough for everyday, this hooded cowl is called Sweet Harmony because of the soothing touch and delightful design of this self-striping yarn from Lion Brand.
You can use your favorite self-striping yarn to make this beauty or go for a more subtle charm with a soft solid. It’s all up to you!

- No matter your skill level, read through the pattern before beginning your work just to be sure you don’t have any questions that might cause frustration in midst of your project.
- When there is a single chain at the beginning of a row/round, it IS NOT counted as a stitch.
- When there is a CH-2 at the beginning of a row/round, it IS counted as a stitch.
- Gauge: 3.5 rows X 7 stitches = 2” square worked in double crochet rows.
- Size: One size fits most | Finished measurements: Approximately 17.5″ wide x 17″ tall
- Adjustments: To adjust sizing add or subtract six stitches from the foundation round and adjust stitch-count of subsequent rows.

RND 1: FSC 120. Join with a SLST to form a circle, being careful. The piece should measure approximately 17.5″. (120 STS)
RND 2: CH1, DC in the first ST and each ST around. Join with a SLST to top of beginning DC. (120 DCs)
RND 3: CH2, DC in the same ST as beginning CH-2, *SK a ST, 2DC in the next ST,* repeat from * to * 58 more times. Join with a SLST to top CH of beginning CH2. (60 DC Clusters)
RND 4: SLST into the space between the first two 2-DC clusters, CH2, DC in the same space as the beginning CH-2, *2DC in the next space between two 2-DC clusters,* repeat from * to * 58 more times. Join with a SLST to top CH of beginning CH2. (60 DC Clusters)
RND 5: CH1, SC in the space between the beginning CH2 and first DC of Rnd 4, CH1 loosely. *SC in between the 2 DCs of the next cluster, CH1 loosely*. Repeat from * to * 58 more times. Join with a SLST to beginning SC. (60 SCs, 60 CH-1 spaces)
RND 6: CH2, DC in the next ST and in each SC and CH ST around. Join with a SLST to top CH of beginning CH2. (120 DCs)
RND 7: CH1, SC in same stitch as beginning CH1, SK 2 STS, 5DC in the next ST (this 5-DC cluster is a “shell”), SK 2 STS, *SC in the next ST, SK 2 STS, 5DC in the next ST, SK 2 STS*. Repeat from * to * 18 more times. Join with SLST top CH of beginning SC. (20 SCs, 20 shells)
RND 8: CH2, work 4DC into the same ST as beginning CH2, SC in center ST of the next shell, *5DC in next SC, SC in center ST of next shell*. Repeat from * to * 18 more times. Join with a SLST to top CH of beginning CH2. (20 SCs, 20 shells)
