Thank you for your suggestions but they didn't really solve my problem.
I finally solved this problem but it was extremely complex.
Jan 4, 2017 - Windows 10 version of Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset (MSDaRT / MS DaRT 10 / ERD Commander) - free download ISO, create USB.
I tried EasyRC, didn't work.
bootrec /rebuildbcd and similar saw my c:windows but the couldn't include it in the BCD
Microsoft Windows 10 Iso Download
Windows 10 ISO on a CD or a stick originally didn't work, up to the moment that one version (out of 5 or 6 I downloaded) came up with a window asking for a driver. Finding the correct driver was very difficult. Different sources indicate different brands for my SSD (Intel / Samsung / Toshiba). Moreover it wasn't clear whether I had to select UEFI or Legacy in the bootsetup.
I then tried DART which after several attempts allowed me to load a compatible driver and see and restore.
My recommendations, seeing that I wasn't the only one with this kind of problems:
- create a Windows platform for boot problems
- explain clearly where BCD files are located (confusion arises when one boots from USB or ISO)
- improve explanations about UEFI - Legacy
- adapt the ISO so that appropriate SSD drivers are automatically / easily loaded.
Download Msdart For Windows 10
- refer to DART more openly
